Haven’t danced since 23rd August (that’s 40+days) and missed it alot today when I tried to search for a studio here in Warsaw/ spammed watched youtube vids and old emix training vids MISS MISS MISS. Thankful and very glad that I/we got off our lazy procrastinating butts to create this little pieces for the mmrs :”)
Chilling at a Bux on a cosy Tuesday morning because……………. NO! MORE! INTERNSHIP!!!!! Time to bid goodbye to this fulfilling 10-week phase of life — all glory to God cos it’s truly truly truly been a good ride!! v grateful for the people I met, the things I picked up, and the patience I learnt to have while dealing with the (very few) not-too-good bits. (still no idea why my last day fell on a Monday tho)
Things I dreaded:
- The ringing of my alarm clock at 7.15am
- Squeezing for Bus 858 @ the “Aft Punggol Road” bus stop with 2513841 other people who contribute to the Changi Airport morning rush*
- Post-lunch food coma (they are l. e. g. i. t!! no kidding)
- Hunger pangs!!!!!! It doesn’t help that office life makes it so tough to find time and motivation for exercise before/after work. I! Need! Dance!
- Being seated too near the pantry – the area where people would head to to make very loud calls in order not to disrupt the rest of the peace in the office. spare me
- Days when there isn’t much to do – Give me a busy yet productive day over a slack and aimless one any day! Then again, the grass is always greener on the other side 🌚
*Never thought that the bus peak hour could be (almost) as bad as the MRT peak hour; Singapore amazes me. Thank God for the 70% of the time that I got a seat for the ride tho!! (mytransport.sg really works)
Things I’m thankful for:
- The opportunity to have worked on a development that’s gonna be the next big thing for Singapore 🌞🌞!!! http://www.jewelchangiairport.com/
- Stepping out of the office into one of my fav places to be in Singapore: the airport!!!! I’m not sure if it’s the Changi Airport scent or just the vibes in the terminal, but there’s something about taking a stroll along the L2 departure hall that I rly luv idgi.
- My cosy little CMC team, each with big hearts for this project! (plus, 2 of them are moms/ moms-to-be so it was really nice to hear and witness how parenting and a career are not mutually exclusive)
- A first-hand experience of the functions of a corp. marketing and comms. team, and a fair share of empowerment by my supervisors!! #workingmomgoals
- My 2 Jewel BFFs i.e. fellow interns, Tianxin and Evan. TQ for making 9.5hour-work days infinitely more enjoyable – for the morning eye-rolls, afternoon lunches, and for every tgif that we celebrated with a victory prance out of the office doors :~)
- That we’re not cooped up in cubicles. It’s much more motivating to know you’re slogging together to tie different loose ends up (even tho we’re from different departments), than to stare at a wall tacked with post-its!
- The daily what-to-eat-for-lunch conversation: Subway? Too ex. Pastamania? Too fat. T2 canteen? Too far. “T3 kopitiam sua!!!!”……. Should I get Koi?
I mean it when I say I’ll miss this a little 😦 👋
Way too sweet la :”)
Spent 30% of the time (or maybe a little more than that) figuring out the Europe map, transportation details, air B&B bookings, reading where-to-stay-in-xxx and top-10-things-to-do-in-xxx lists, and now it’s on to the next bit of prep: the packing. The nerves haven’t hit me so I’m just filled to the brim with excitement, and can’t thank God enough for this upcoming 4-month phase of life :”)
And it’s just under 20 days till I can finally make my way to Airport Boulevard with my passport (instead of my staff pass) in hand 😉
One fine day, Germy felt an little tickle in her bones to choreograph to this song, and soon enough she got up on her feet and did. After 3 days of choreographing to a mirror in her room with her funny sister Gerry by her side, she poked me to hop onto her choreo train and do a “little maines project before flying” :>
A million thanks to Germy for inspiring me with her courage to have challenged herself with this in the first place — from “I feel v vulnerable” to our random choreo-ing and “too much left leg up” (what a perfectionist)………. till somehow ending up in Lee Kong Chian School of Business B1 carpark to film it!! & of course, a million and one thanks to gwendaloh for putting the best angles of this little piece together, and for the love and artistry that she shares so relentlessly with us :”)
“Technicolour Beat was inspired by the 6am sunrise when we were all gloriously happy and free and lying on the floor staring at the ceilings, feeling blessed to be alive.” – O Wonder
P/S: dumbest thing we did that night was to be clad in long sleeves. IT WAS A SAUNA
Finally getting down to this post: throwback to two normal-days-turned-special in the middle of the mundane internship period back in June, with some of my favourite hoomans 🙃 + 🙃🙃🙃
(25 Jun – Hari Raya Public Holiday)
In short, had a rly rly happy day there because of Royal’s odd fascination with animal facts and also because we were blessed with perfect-timing-encounters with the feeding times and animal appearances!! and great weather too 🌞🌞🌞 no regrets waking up earlier than a work-day for this, hoho
^8/10 map-reading skills :~)
Also, the zoo was really much bigger than I remembered it to be. The last time I was at the zoo, I was probably still ~120cm (or less) and my fav animals there were the raccoons! but sadly, they’re now gone from this zoo’s list :”(
Breakfast was this cheesy mushroom sausage bread thing which was sinfully gud!! + some Mr Bean viet coffee to get us ready for the day (but there were monkeys on the nearby roof so that was quite scary)
Literally stared at this for 5mins++ to figure out if it was a real croc or a fake one and we’re 78% sure it’s a fake because it. did. not. move. an. inch??????White tigers were so pretty! We staked out for quite a bit to catch the feeding session cos Royal loves tigers and it was so worth it. These guys deserve more fame than lions who are are lazy shits omg they didn’t even budge their ass when the zookeeper threw them huge chunks of meat.Another majestic cutie was this polar bear called Inuka :~)
Lastly, this was our S$7.50 lunch (each! bowl!!!!) – the only downside of the zoo, apart from the fact that it’s soooo inaccessible. thank God for Grab Hitch
Did a little sleepover thingie that night and this was taken after we watched Your Name on my sofa (it’s sooooo good btw. don’t usually watch Jap Anime but this was highly recommended by Chanel and I highly recommend it now!!!!!!). I crashed soon after, oops. We had Macs hotcakes the next morning and then it was time for……..
GARDENS BY THE BAY
(26 Jun – took my 1x annual leave for these baduds ok)
Chanel was our flower guide throughout the Flower Dome and she could name almost all of the flowers wahhaha FlowerMa indeed :>
P/S: Not sure when I’ll stop feeling so irrationally excited seeing her Instastories or hearing from her on Tele, but having Germy fly off on Tuesday has really made the saying ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ pretty legit!!!!!! #bf2
(P/S: it’s so hard to think of titles!!! reminds me why I used to not give titles to my posts on redmugs V.1…..)
Caught haohao on stage for the first time in two years (or more?). Adulthood change dance into something that you have to fight to make happen….. and she did it!!! felt really proud to witness her come back to this old flame and make it work despite her crazy internship schedule :’) P/S: tq to gwendaloh for accompanying me to the show hehe
And of course, Music Manager Ellen Zeng Bo was looking stunning with that black-on-black look and did a perfect job!!! Mad excited for what’s in store for her captaincy :”) U inspire me bob.
Spontaneous supper at Macs satisfied my Macs criss-cut fries craving and filled my heart with a kind of happiness that only old (like, really really old) pals can bring~
The right way to spend a Saturday (and also a pretty foreign way of spending a Saturday – not in the studio): sleeping in and late lunch at a quaint cafe! 🌞🌞🌞
Yinghui brought us to the cafe that she worked at for ~1.5yrs, i.e. The Laneway Market, and it was so on point from the minute we stepped in!!! Dried bouquets hung from the ceilings and the aircon was at the perfect temperature and we got YH’s fav table 🙂 Caught up with the only-one-with-good-time-management while we waited for Leonghui and Clarice until 2.51pm and 2.52pm respectively, and lunch was finally served at 3+pm!!
The spread was amazzzzin’:
This Alaskan crab bun thing was the bomb (mother yinghui helped us to quarter it up) and the truffle fries at the side made us crave for more so we got another whole serving after our main meal hahahhaa. Food is always better when shared!!!!!
This was some smoked salmon scrambled egg with bits of Parmesan cheese and croutons and YH’s fav capsicum concoction (the red plop up there), so gud. Also rly loved the Dashi Mushroom Risotto it was the second bomb :~) tq YHYO for bringing us to your hideout!!!!
and in her words, this place was “aesthetics”
After we wiped out the food, we pigged on our $12 truffle fries and blabbered for another hour or so about i-forgot-what-but-it’s-okay-because-it-was-pure-good-chats-while-it-lasted :> Looking forward to our 8 (or maybe 6)-people date one day!!
Excitement bubbled leading up to this EMACs gathering (pinned the Tele message sooo long ago thanks to Anne’s initiative), and I still remember how far away it felt. Time has now flown till post-22nd July, and exchange is ever so near for all of us — first flights coming in less than a week for Xy and Norway gang!!! germy be gone :”( Better a late meet-up than never, it was sooooo heartening to see such a good turnout — everyone’s way of saying “this matters to me too” 😊
It was a much-needed night of EMACs therapy: laughs (the kind that make your cheeks jam up and your abs/tummy ache a little, ft. ian and marcus’ exchange stories), jaw-drops (ft. Janee’s bad-planning-but-way-above-average-luck stories), fab food (thx to char’s fam and everybody’s bits of effort!!), heartfelt and philosophical 3am conversations, 10/10 company, and the best combination of ramblers and listeners :”) Been way too long since we’ve come together for a night like this, and it was truly a timely reminder of how blessed we were, and still are, to have landed in each others’ company back in 2014.
Can’t wait for the next wave of stories to come along (hopefully good stories but not too good cos that would mean more panty poop and backsplashing!!! nope no thank you), and for all of us to come home safe from wherever we’re gonna end up in the world in the months to come!!!
Also, apt time to throwback to this 🌚 😉
Spent the rest of the v happy weekend with mom and Jo and Jo’s lowwie while he prepared for his second book-in, and with Royal in our fav hideout aka Shaw (Dunkirk review halfway there cos someone is BZ BZ BZ)!!!!!!! Concluded it all with a few new confirmations to our pre-travels 💸💸💸. <1 month to go, can’t thank God enough for this opportunity!
9 weeks into summer internship 2017 with just 9 days to go!! Started this post a very long while back and have been adding in bits and pieces along the way after losing daylight to the office!! v draggy post ahead but here’s to taking a moment to count these blessings 🙂
Fighting the post-lunch food coma and also waiting for my second meeting of the day to come along at 2.30pm, so I decided to take the time to consolidate and pen down some of the thoughts that have been floating around my mind lately!
Nothing too deep — just been ruminating on the idea of growing up/ “adulting” with the people around me (incl. my mom???) a lot: managing finances, work life, the office, where exactly do hobbies (aka dance for me) fit into the picture, maintaining relationships, pay, career goals, and it goes on and on and on.
Consciously or not, our conversations prance around the same few (new) concepts. For example, with EMACs: We used to talk about camps and about being facilitators and about training and about whether we’ll be doing the upcoming event. Now, words like “CPF” and “OT” and phrases like “you can afford a secretary with that pay” are scattered across the table, and people show up to dinner in business wear and pumps, not raglan tees and Nikes. We r oooold (but thankfully, the little pieces of gossip and the huge slices of funny are here to stay!!!)
Talk about BTO and proposals and engagements and weddings and baby showers are getting more legit and aren’t just jokes anymore (p/s: tngmalohwong timeline bets have been taken). And exchange? Exchange is probably the last page of our books left before we go into a full-scale, no-more-escaping-from-reality kind of adulthood.
Not complaining though!!! Counting my blessings to have the ones I luv by my side as we work it through, grow up, and hopefully, grow old together 🙂
Ok abrupt ending, time to do some werk
